Case study 1
A request for blood typing and crossmatching is sent to the lab by the attending physician. The MLT went to collect the blood in the private room of the patient. The patient is alone in the room ( no other patient), and being prepared for surgery.
Upon arrival in the lab, the MLT labels the specimen tube with the Pt name, date.

The MLT is asked to go to the ER to collect blood for CBC and blood typing. In a rush, the MLT got red top tube, syringe, needles and antiseptic materials. As she begins to do venipuncture, she realizes she does not have EDTA tube.

An MLT in the outpatient collection section is asked to collect blood from an elderly patient. Upon insertion of the needle, the patient complains of tingling sensation that ran through the ends of the last 2 small fingers. The MLT reinserts the needle, and asks the Pt “is it ok now?” The patient says “yes”, and the blood collection is continued. Later, a complaint is lodged/ filed about the MLT.
