ASO AntiStreptolysin O
Anti-streptolysin O (ASO) is the antibody produced against an antigen produced by Lancefield group A streptococci.
antistreptolysin O antibodies is a blood test used to assist in the diagnosis of a streptococcal infection or indicate a past exposure to
streptococci
.The enzyme is called streptolysin O, wherein the O stands for oxygen-labile; the other antigen being oxygen stable streptolysin-S. Both the enzymes are involved in producing hemolysis
The ASOT helps direct the antimicrobial treatment and is used to assist in the diagnosis of scarlet fever, rheumatic fever and post infectious glomerulonephritis.
method
1- make serial dilution of patient serum
2- add antigen to each tube
3-add wash RBC to eash tube
4-incubate
5-read the titer
A positive test usually is >200 units/mL
False positives can result from liver disease and tuberculosis]تعليق
