Certain levels of triglycerides are associated with certain disorders:
If <250 mg/dl: Not associated with a disease state
If 250-500 mg/dl: Associated with peripheral vascular disease and may be a marker for genetic forms of hyperlipoproteinemias that need specific therapy
If >500 mg/dl: Associated with high risk of pancreatitis
If >1000 mg/dl: Associated with type I or type V hyperlipidemia and substantial risk of pancreatitis
If >5000 mg/dl: Associated with eruptive xanthoma, corneal arcus, lipemia retinalis, and enlarged liver and spleen
